China leads the pack at 3.4 billion tonnes, followed by United States at 1.7 billion tonnes and Australia at 1.3 billion tonnes. This list includes only countries that transported over 10 million tonnes of freight a year by rail. The total freight transported per year across the world is over 12.5 billion tonnes. Over 46 countries transport less than 500 million tonnes of freight by rail in a year.
