World production of citrus fruit in 2017 was 147 million tonnes. It was the 18th most cultivated crop after sugar cane at 1842 million tonnes, soybeans at 353 million tonnes, sugar beet at 301 million tonnes and barley at 147 million tonnes, followed by bananas at 114 million tonnes, apples at 83 million tonnes, grapes at 74 million tonnes and oranges at 73 million tonnes.

Consumption of citrus fruit in 2013

Consumption of citrus fruit across the world in 2013 was 11 million tonnes. It was the 67th most consumed food item after fruits at 545 million tonnes, tomatoes at 144 million tonnes and oranges at 87 million tonnes. Some items consumed less than citrus fruit in 2013 include grapefruit and products at 8 million tonnes and dates at 7 million tonnes.
