Adult Obesity Rates Across the World

This chart compares Adult Obesity rates (as percent of total population) with the GDP per capita (in USD). As expected, a higher GDP per capita results in a higher obesity rate, probably due to abundance of food supply.

A few european countries like Norway, Sweden, etc show lower obesity rates in spite of a higher GDP. This may be because of general awareness among the population of the detrimental effects of obesity.

A few countries with low population show higher obesity rates, e.g Nauru, Cook Islands, etc.

A notable trend is that the arab countries are mostly at the top of the obesity list.

The North american countries come in at: United States(36%), Canada(29%) and Mexico(28.9%).
